Society has always looked down on women who are unable to carry their own children, but not until recent times.
Technological and bio-medical advancement, as well as years of research, and study, have brought solutions to these problems.
It is also notable to mention that in most communities, it is now normal to accept these alternate methods of conceiving.
International celebrities have since been opting for these alternatives which are IVF and surrogacy but not many are open about it.
Today, we’re listing three prominent Nigerians who’ve opted for these alternatives.
According to the Mayoclinic “In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a complex series of procedures used to help with fertility or prevent genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child”
“During IVF, mature eggs are collected (retrieved) from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then the fertilized egg (embryo) or eggs (embryos) are transferred to a uterus. One full cycle of IVFtakes about three weeks. Sometimes these steps are split into different parts and the process can take longer.”
The other alternative, surrogacy, the practice where a woman (a surrogate) carries a child for another person(s) (the commissioning or intending parents) due to a prior arrangement that the child would be handed over to the commissioning parent at birth. Mondaq

The first daughter of the former governor of Lagos state, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, welcomed two children via surrogacy in 2017 and 2019.
Ufuoma McDermott:
A few years ago, Nollywood actress Ufuomo McDermott disclosed on social media that she had her first child, Isio, via Invitro Fertilization (IVF). She also encouraged women who want to have children through alternate means not to be afraid.
Actress Ini Edo:
In 2021, popular Nollywood and veteran actress, Ini Edo, announced she is welcoming a baby via surrogacy. She explained it is to avoid the drama involved with having a baby daddy.
