1. Tension in foods, drinks sector over expatriate quota abuse [Vanguard Newspaper]
Industrial unrest is looming in the Food and Beverages sector of the nation’s economy over alleged expatriate quota abuse by multi-nationals and other major companies in the industry.
Already, organised labour has petitioned the Federal Government through the Ministry of Labour and Employment, accusing a major multi-national in the sector of flagrant abuse of expatriate quota.
2. Biafra: Ojukwu accepted Shagari’s condition to be stripped of military status for amnesty — Amb Ukume [Vanguard Newspaper]
Nigerian Ambassador to Vote D’Ivoire during late President Shehu Shagari’s administration, Denis Ukume,has disclosed that late Biafra warlord,Odumegwu Ojukwu accepted Shagari’s condition to be derobed of military status for him to be granted amnesty.
The 83-year old claimed Ojukwu agreed to Shagari’s condition to be referred to simply as “Mr” without any military insignia, if he (Ojukwu) would be granted pardon for his role in the Nigerian Civil War.
3. States revive isolation centres, COVID-19 cases soar, vaccination grounded at 3.9% [Punch Newspaper]
State governments have intensified preparations of isolation centres in readiness for possible admission of COVID-19 patients as cases of the virus continue to rise in the country.
Officials of states including Ogun, Gombe, Benue, Lagos, Ondo and Sokoto, in separate interviews with our correspondents on Sunday, said they had enough bed spaces to admit COVID-19 patients.
This came to the fore as the number of officially confirmed COVID-19 infections hit 236, 014 while the rate of full vaccination was stalled at 3.9 per cent as of Saturday.
4. Okorocha lambasts Uzodinma, IGP as son-in-law arrested in church [Punch Newspaper]
A former Governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, on Sunday said the police operatives who arrested his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu, during a service at St Peter’s Anglican Church, Eziama Obieri in the Nkwerre Local Government Area of the state, pushed his wife, Nkechi, to the ground and tore the clothes of his first daughter, Uloma.
Okorocha, who briefed journalists at his Spilbat mansion in Owerri, the state capital, said Governor Hope Uzodinma deceived the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, into desecrating the church of worship by arresting Nwosu.
