Tragedy struck as a woman, identified as Mrs Omode has been reportedly killed by some unknown assailants at Iwaro Oka in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State.
In recent months, there’s been heightened level of insecurity across Nigeria and especially Ondo State Nigeria leading to the state Government announcing curfews in parts of the state.
The deceased, who was said to be a cleaner at the Deeper Life Bible Church in the community, was found dead. She was said to have been murdered on Sunday morning while going to the church to perform her duty.
According to an eyewitness, the lifeless body of the deceased was found on the ground with a mark and blood on her neck, which indicated that her throat was slit by the killers.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami speaking to newsmen, said an investigation had commenced into the incident.
“The lifeless body of the woman was found on the way to the church and there was a cut on the neck. We have commenced our investigation into the matter,” Odunlami stated.
In the meantime, NewsWireNGR is tracking a twitter user who has announced the demise of his grandmother who went to clean the church early Sunday, we however cannot confirm if the case is connected with the story from Ondo state.
The user identified as Mr Tolu wrote, “Woke up to my mom calling to tell me my grandmother was killed inside church”
His tweet continued, “I know people and wicked and all but why will you kill an old woman who goes to church to clean it up before service inside the same church?? I pray the person(s) generation never know peace”.
The distressed Tolu continued in his post, “From congratulations the past two weeks to “accept my condolence” today.. You can’t have a whole month of happiness in this country”.
He continued, “Who the hell kills an old woman inside a place of worship?? My grandma prays for and help people fgs.. Why???”.
During the week, NewsWireNGR recalls that, the Ondo State government had imposed a curfew on Ikare, another Ondo community following the killings recorded in parts of the ancient town.
The Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Ondo, Donald Ojogo, who announced this in a statement, said the curfew was with immediate effect and would last 24 hours.
He explained that the decision of the government became necessary in view of security reports and credible intelligence arising from the situation in Ikare – the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area of the state.
According to the commissioner, some deaths were recorded from sporadic gunshots that have spread through the town in the last 12 hours.
While describing the situation as unacceptable, he stated that security agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew and ensure full compliance.
Ojogo called on traditional rulers and religious leaders among other stakeholders in Ikare to support the government’s effort to restore peace in the town.
He also announced that the government has decided to lift the curfew imposed on Igbara-Oke last week.
