Nigerian Newspaper headlines, Governors battle AGF over Paris club refund, Banks, Private sector credit up 32.81%

Today’s Newspaper Headlines in Nigeria, the 9th of November 2021, brought to you by NewsWireNGR, starts with a statement issued by the the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) on Monday accusing the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation (HAGF), Abubakar Malami, for working against the public’s interest by insisting on the payment of $418 million to private consultants from the accounts of state governments.

Thisday Newspaper headline captured the essence of the story that alleged that, the consultants are claiming a percentage of Paris Club refunds as payment of services they said they rendered to the states and local government.

The Federal Government had determined to pay the consultants from state accounts but a Federal High Court on Friday restrained it from making such deductions until all issues relating to that matter were fully determined.

In a statement signed by the spokesman of the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, Umar Gwandu, on Friday, the AGF suggested the states and local governments had acted in bad faith for taking the case to court.

For Daily Trust Newspaper, it captioned its headline with a Federal High Court in Abuja ruling that sentenced Abdulrasheed Maina, the former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reformed Task Team to eight years imprisonment.

Maina was convicted after he was found guilty of money laundering.

In a judgement delivered on Monday by Justice Okon Abang, the court held that the prosecutor, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has produced essential evidence through witnesses to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Maina is guilty of money laundering in the sum of N171,099,000. The Newspaper said Pensioners cheer as Maina bags 61 years in Prison.

But Business day Newspaper Headline is on banks and Private sector credit up 32.81% in three years according to the Newspaper Headlines we are following for today. It says Nigerian Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) gave out the most credit worth N33.84 trillion to the private sector in September 2021, driven by Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.

For Guardian Newspaper, focus is back to the Anambra State supplementary election slated to hold from 10 am to 4 pm on Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, announced this via a statement issued on Monday.

He said the Commission made a slight adjustment to the commencement and closing time for the said election in line with extant rules and regulations.
