‘Half of a yellow sun’ movie is already being considered by movie lovers in London, United kingdom as one of Nigeria’s finest brands. The movie is an adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie‘s novel, Half Of A Yellow Sun.
The movie which reflects on Nigeria’s Civil war, love and family life was premiered at the Odeon Cinema in Streatham on Tuesday night and the tickets were sold out. Some of those in attendance at the premiere spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent. They praised the unique story line of the movie and expressed satisfaction over the performances of the film’s cast.
People of all races assembled at the premiere of the movie who were keen to understand the Nigerian civil story war better.
The director of the movie is Nigerian writer and filmmaker, Biyi Bandele. The movie features British actor, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Hollywood’s Thandie Newton. The movie also features the likes of Onyeka Onwenu, Joseph Mawle, and John Gboyega.
The director of the film, Biyi Bandele spoke to NAN. He said the movie is quite contemporary and has been receiving positive responses. He expressed optimism that the movie would counter stereotypical opinions about Nigeria. Bandele also believes the movie has the best selection of actors.
’12 years a slave’ star, Chiwetel Ejiofor who also starred in Half Of A Yellow Sun referred to the movie as a “beautiful story based on the Biafra civil war which captured the beauty of the Nigerian society”.
The author of the book from which the movie draws inspiration, Chimamanda Adichie said she was happy that the film captured the essence of the novel properly as it was able to portray the message of love, relationships and the civil war which she tried to pass across.
The world premiere of the movie took place at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival in September. The movie will also be premiered in Nigeria and the United States of America (U.S.A) this April.
