Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, is taking a major step toward greener fuel distribution in Nigeria.
The Dangote Group plans to introduce electric trucks early next year, following the recent launch of 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks that will deliver fuel directly to filling stations.
Dangote highlighted safety and efficiency as key reasons for the shift from older vehicles. “We need to protect our investment,” he said, adding that modern vehicles can prevent accidents and ensure smoother operations.
The move is part of the company’s broader strategy at its $20 billion Ibeju-Lekki refinery, the world’s largest single-train facility, capable of processing up to 650,000 barrels of crude per day.
Since its first exports, the refinery has shipped over 1.1 billion liters of petrol to domestic and international markets.
