Lagos government working on ways to curb exorbitant house rent, agent fee — Sanwo Olu’s aide hints

There are indications that the Lagos state government is working on bills and possible enforcement to curb the exorbitant house rents and agent fees in the state.
This was hinted by Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Gawat who was reacting to a similar development in Enugu state posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page; “LAGOS … Coming Soon.
“A Very strong issue but must be well discussed and implemented, after deliberation by the Lagos House of Assembly.”
NewsWireNGR reports that there has been an outcry by netizens across different states of the federation over the hike in house rents by landlords and the outrageous fee charged by agents who are mostly unregistered, thanks to the unregulated industry.
Another X user, @AUNTYMUSE, also wrote; “Saw a shop 250k, agent said I am paying 500k. 250k for them and 250k for landlord. Total 500k. This is becoming too much”.
@bin_gbada wrote; “We are not taking this house rent issue seriously. People are taking loans to pay rent. Their income isn’t commensurate with the rent. How’s someone on 100k salary expected to pay 600k for rent? How does it work?”.
In a similar development, an X user, @Efeom, shared that; “A petition has been filed against agents and landlords in Asaba and has been submitted to the Office of the Commissioner of Housing. Our demand is for the regulation of house rents and agents’ fees in Delta State. Special thanks to Stanley and the team..”
