Early Life and Education
Patrick Ogoegbunem Ukah was born on April 10, 1964, in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, to Albert Kankenjimenjo Ukah and Veronica Ozoemezie Elueze. Raised in Okpanam, Delta State, his early years were characterized by frequent relocations, which instilled in him adaptability and resilience.
He pursued higher education at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), where he earned a diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Education. Demonstrating a strong commitment to academic and professional growth, he later obtained a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the same institution.
Career and Professional Achievements
Sports and Private Sector Contributions
Ukah began his career in sports, excelling as a National Hockey Player before transitioning into sports administration. He served as President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, working to promote and develop the sport at both national and grassroots levels.
Beyond athletics, he has been deeply involved in sports media and marketing. He was the Executive Producer of The Sports Market TV program and the Publisher of Sports Market International Magazine, contributing to the growth of sports journalism in Nigeria.
Ukah also played a key role in securing media rights for the 2012 Olympic Broadcast in Nigeria as Chairman of the Nigeria Olympic Marketing Committee. His leadership extended into golf, where he currently serves as Captain of the Ibori Golf and Country Club in Asaba, Delta State.
Public Sector Leadership
Transitioning into public service, Ukah has held several leadership positions within the Delta State government. His career in governance has been marked by efforts to improve information dissemination, education, and infrastructure development.
His roles in government include:
- Commissioner for Information (2012–2023) – Oversaw public communication and media engagement in Delta State.
- Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education (2015–2023) – Focused on improving the educational sector, implementing policies to enhance learning outcomes.
- Secretary to the State Government (2021–2023) – Coordinated government activities and played a key role in policy formulation.
- Director-General, Delta State Capital Development Agency (2023–Present) – Currently leading efforts to drive infrastructure projects and urban development initiatives in Delta State.
In acknowledgment of his impact, he was honored with the chieftaincy title “Akatakpo Enyi 1 of Okpanam Kingdom”, a title that signifies his dedication to the welfare of his community.
Personal Life
Patrick Ukah is married to Uche Perpetua Ukah, Esq., and they have three children: Afoma, Funaya, and Chukwumazie Patrick Jr. His personal life is guided by strong values of family, love, respect, and mutual support.
