Court remands man, 27, over alleged armed robbery, kidnapping

An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, on Tuesday, remanded a 27-year-old man, James Israel, in a correctional facility over alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

Israel, whose home address was not provided, is facing charges of alleged armed robbery and kidnapping.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Oladele, did not, however, take the plea of the defendant for want of jurisdiction.

Oladele directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice and subsequently adjourned the case till til August 5 for mention.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Inspector Femi Omilana, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 13 at about 2 a.m. at Olubadan Ogunmakin area of Ibadan.

Omilana said that the defendant, while armed with gun and other dangerous weapons, attacked one Segun Peter and robbed him of his two phones.

He said that the defendant also kidnapped his robbery victim afterwards.

According to him, the offences contravene Sections 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms Laws of Nigeria, 2004 and Section 4(2) of Oyo State Kidnapping Prohibition Law, 2016.
