Man commits suicide in Kano as ex-wife remarries

A 37-year-old security officer at Prestige International College, Danmusa Steet, Gadon Kaya, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State, has taken his own life.

It was gathered that the deceased, identified as Nuradeen Shehu, hung himself after learning that his ex-wife had remarried.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Hussaini Gumel, told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, that the incident occurred inside one of the classrooms of the college.

He said on January 28, at about 10:30 a.m., Abdullahi Abdulsalam of Rijiyar Zaki brought a report that one Nuradeen Shehu, a security guard at the college, was found motionless after he hanged himself with rope in a classroom.

He explained that a team of Policemen from Gwale Division, led by the DPO, was at the scene and forcefully unlocked the door, cut the rope, and rushed the body to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead.

The body was released to the family of the deceased for burial.

The CP said that the police would thoroughly investigate the motives behind the incident.
