Ogun Government warns owners of marked houses obstructing free flow of wastes and water

Ogun State Government has warned owners of marked houses obstructing free flow of wastes and water to remove them voluntarily or have them pulldown by the state at a cost payable by owners.
Commissioner for Environment, Mr Ola Oresanya, who gave the warning, yesterday, when he led the state’s team on flood mitigation and control to assess the impact of urban flooding in Ikenne Council of the state, said the move became necessary to prevent avoidable flooding.
According to him, if owners of marked buildings, who have been given enough notice and ultimatum, but are waiting for the state government to remove the property, will have to pay the state government for using the taxpayers’ money for demolition exercise.
He, therefore, directed those involved to do the needful as quickly as possible to avoid sanctions.
Oresanya directed house owners in the state to channel their waste waters properly by constructing and maintaining tertiary drains in front of their houses or show evidence of wastewater retention tanks to complement the state government’s efforts at constructing and maintaining primary and secondary trunks to avoid sanctions.
“Any house owner that fails to comply with these directives by allowing his or her wastes water to flow on to the roads will be penalised as the state and the local authorities will not watch them channel their waste water directly to the road, thereby destroying the road infrastructure.”
Meanwhile, the state government has disclosed plans to establish ministries of mineral resources, information communication technology and digital economy and energy.
This was disclosed by Governor Dapo Abiodun during a meeting with permanent secretaries at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
He said: “The reasons we decided to set up this new ministries is because those areas are now going to be areas of focus for us and we believe that for us to achieve the objectives that we are setting forth in those areas, it is important for them to become full-fledged ministries and have all the required administrative support that will allow them to achieve their objectives.”
