I’m working for Tinubu, not APC — Wike

The Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, clarified that he is working for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and not the party.

The immediate past governor of Rivers state despite being a member of Tinubu’s cabinet remains a card-carrying member of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“I am not working for APC. I am working for Tinubu, who have trust in me to help him deliver the renewed hope,” Wike said when he featured on Channels TV Politics Today.

He added, “I owe nobody any apology at all. I was in PDP and I worked for Ahmed Bola Tinubu to become the President of Nigeria.”

NewsWireNGR reports the All Progressives Congress (APC) named Nyesom Wike as a member of their campaign councils for the Bayelsa state in a purported lists, ahead of the November 11, 2023 governorship election in the South-South state.

The party has, however, denied the list in a statement which reads in part, “The attention of the APC has been drawn to a national campaign council lists for the November 11, governorship elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo States in circulation in sections of the media.

“The lists are not official documents of the party and should be disregarded,” Morka,  the APC’s National Publicity Secretary said.

Meanwhile, Wike, in an interview with Channels TV, said; “If I want to go to APC, I will tell my people. But I am still a member of PDP and I was not consulted before my name was listed in the APC campaign council. You don’t even need to consult me because I am still a member of PDP.”

He also challenged his party, daring them to take action against him through suspension or disciplinary measures.

“The person who will suspend me is when I couldn’t produce a governor, three senators, Assembly members. I have not seen that person. Nobody will do it”.
