Buhari Has Failed In His Responsibility To Protect Nigerians – Civil Society Group

The Advocacy for Integrity and Economic Development, (AIED), a non-governmental human right group strongly condemns the gruesome murder of a 42 year old mother of seven children, Mrs. Eunice Elisha, who on Saturday 9th July, 2016, was brutally killed while performing her religious rites as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the loud silence of President Muhammadu Buhari on the evil act.

It is so barbaric that Mrs. Elisha was murdered in Kubwa area of Abuja, FCT, in the early hours of the day with her neck slashed and stabbed in the stomach.

It would be recalled that about a month ago in Kano, another innocent woman, Mrs. Bridget Agbaheme, a 74 year old woman was murdered. Another fresh but sad news is that of the Fulani herdsmen militia that was recently reported to have killed 81 people in multiple attacks in Logo and Ukum local government areas of Benue state in central Nigeria.

In recent times, there have been multiple cases of attacks by Fulani herdsmen on various communities, all over the nation.
The President’s silence on this hatred motivated murder and several orgies of killings in Nigeria which are gradually going out of hands is however ominous, worrisome, unfortunate and disappointing.

As enshrined in section 14 of the 1999 Constitution, “the security and welfare of the people shall be the primary purpose of government”. Clearly, Nigeria by law and by the choice of our people, is a secular state.

In lieu of this, all Citizens of Nigeria should therefore feel safe in any part of the country that they choose to reside in, irrespective of their tribe, creed or faith.

The question to ask President Muhammadu Buhari is to openly tell us if he can no longer protect the lives and properties of Nigerians in ALL part of the Country as enshrined in the constitution and his oath of office?

The discrimination against certain blocs/groups in Nigeria under the Buhari Administration is assuming a dangerous dimension that should not be left unarrested.

The (AIED) notes that It is a great disservice and absolute failure on the President’s role of protecting lives and properties for him to openly ignore the barbaric and cold blooded murder. No statement, no visitation, no condemnation.

It is bad enough for the people to be complaining that their leader is clueless about how to run his government, it is painful enough when a leader openly reneges upon his campaign promises, to the detriment of his own integrity, it is hurting enough when a leader runs the economy aground and is implementing anti-people policies that impose hardship and suffering on the people; but it becomes most saddening, when the leader is openly insensitive to bloodshed and violence, perpetrated on the strength of the bias of that leader.

The (AIED) commiserate with the families affected by these mindless orgies of death and destruction across communities in Nigeria.
