By Balogun Kamilu Lekan

Secret societies have existed throughout history, often shrouded in mystery and intrigue. Some have been accused of manipulating world events, while others have been credited with advancing science, art, and philosophy.

Here are the top 10 most powerful secret societies in history

Illuminati

The Illuminati is a famous secret group that started in Bavaria in 1776. They wanted to spread the idea of being sensible and open-minded while not liking superstitious or religious beliefs. Even though they didn’t last long, people talk a lot about them, and some think they tried to control the world.

According to modern conspiracy theories, the Illuminati have been behind many significant events in history, such as the Battle of Waterloo, the French Revolution, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. They are believed to have controlled these events.

Freemasons

Figures like Charlie chaplain, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and Winston Churchill have been members of this society.

Since the 17th century, Freemasonry has been a group that promotes brotherhood and good deeds. However, some people within the organization believe it has a deeper purpose beyond charity work and that there is more to it than the public sees.  The group values friendship, helping others, and telling the truth.

Skull and Bones

The Skull and Bones is an undergraduate secret society at Yale University, founded in 1832. Also known as “Bonesmen,.” This group is well-known for being linked to many conspiracy theories. One of the most widely believed theories is that the founders of the CIA were members of this group.

Among the most famous Bonesmen are former U.S. Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush.

The Knights Templar

The Knights Templar was a group of Christian soldiers who started during the Crusades in the 12th century. They were meant to keep Christian travelers safe on their journey to Jerusalem, and they became a very strong group in Europe. Later on, the Catholic Church stopped the Templars, and since then, people have talked about them a lot and created stories and myths about their history.

The Order of the Golden Fleece

The Order of the Golden Fleece was a chivalric order founded by the Duke of Burgundy in 1430. The order’s name was inspired by the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece, and its members were among the most powerful rulers in Europe. The order is still in existence today and is one of the world’s most prestigious orders of chivalry.

The Black Hand

The Black Hand was a secret society active in Serbia during the early 20th century. The group was responsible for the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, which set off a chain of events that led to World War I. The Black Hand was also known for using terrorism and political violence.

Order Of Chaeronea

Cecil Ives created the group to allow people to talk freely without worrying about punishment. He set up the group like a secret society and made special rituals and secret words for members to use. He also made rules to prevent members from using the group to have romantic or sexual relationships.

It became very popular and was in many countries around the world. This allowed Ives to promote gay rights through the books and talks he gave.

Order Of Chaeronea

The KKK is a group in America that promotes extreme views like white supremacy, white nationalism, and being against immigrants. In the past, they used terrorism to hurt people or groups who disagreed. Many people consider them a terrorist organization, and their membership has decreased from millions to less than five thousand people.

The Rosicrucians

The Rosicrucians’ teachings included the idea of a universal brotherhood of humanity and the pursuit of spiritual wisdom. Their use of symbolism and mystical practices helped to shape the development of the esoteric tradition, which focuses on spiritual knowledge that is hidden or hard to understand.

Although the Rosicrucians were originally a secret society, their ideas, and practices became more widespread. They influenced many other groups and individuals interested in esotericism and spirituality. Today, Rosicrucian organizations and teachings are still available for those interested in exploring their ideas further.
