Just In: Residents Flee as Military invades Bayelsa community

Indigenes of Bilabiri communities in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have fled the community following the alleged military invasion of the community on Friday morning.

The alleged invasion of the community is coming over two weeks after some military personnel were reportedly killed in the area. It was gathered that the alleged military invasion began around 10 am Friday morning, with houses razed and properties destroyed while the indigenes have fled into the forest for their safety.

Vanguard Newspaper reports that the Chairman of Bilabiri I Community, Mr Esau Darosha, in a Save our Souls (SOS) made available to Vanguard, has called on the government to intervene and prevail on the military to stop further destruction of the community and displacement of indigenes.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari is currently meeting behind closed doors with Security Chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The meeting is holding a few hours to the take-off time of the President to London, the United Kingdom where he will be attending the inaugural UK-Africa Investment Summit.

The meeting is believed to be the routine security meeting which usually holds on Mondays where security heads brief the President on the security situations in the country. The London summit is expected to kick-start on Monday, January 20, and the President according to the statement by his media office is expected back to Nigeria on Thursday, next week.
