Buhari Nominates 27 As INEC RECs, Seeks Lawmakers Confirmation

President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, on Thursday, read a letter from Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, in which he sought legislative approval for the nomination of 27 Nigerians as Resident Electoral Commissioners of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Osinbajo transmitted the nominations to the Senate in February, when President Muhammadu Buhari was on medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

Some of the RECs? were renominated by Buhari following the expiration of their tenures.

In September, Ike Ekweremadu, deputy senate president, blamed the spate of inconclusive elections across the country on the absence of RECs in 20 states.
