Nigerian Senate Insists That EFCC Chairman Accused of Corruption Is Rejected

The Senate has maintained that it rejected the nomination of Ibrahim Magu as the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The senate in a post on its official Twitter handle, @ngrsenate, rubbished the report credited to the Senate leader, Mohammed Ali Ndume that the nomination of Magu was not rejected by the lawmakers.

The post, which quoted the spokesperson of the senate, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi, reads thus

“Different media platforms are reporting we did not reject @officialEFCC Magu, Senate’s official position remains he was rejected- Sen Sabi”

Recall that Senator Ndume in an interview with State House correspondents on Monday after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, claimed that the Senate only stepped down Magu's screening last Thursday pending when security issues concerning him are cleared.

He said the Senate would only clear from Buhari whether he should go ahead with Magu's confirmation in spite of the security report on him.
