‘Stolen Mandate’ – Edo PDP Candidate, Ize-Iyamu Shuts Benin City As He Leads Protest Against INEC

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate in the just concluded Edo state election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, this morning led some members of his party in a protest over the results from the Sept. 28th governorship election as announced by INEC.

Addressing the crowd, Ize-Iyamu said: “I thank you all for going about this protest peacefully. You have come out in this large number to register your displeasure about the last election and the stolen mandate, while those who said they won the election cannot come out to celebrate”.

I” have asked God whether to forget about it all, but I heard Him clearly asking me to pursue and recover all without fail. we will not allow them to go away with our stolen mandate. We will take it back by the Grace of God Almighty”.

The national caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has rejected the outcome of the Edo State governorship election that held last week.

The party said what happened was “a charade”.

The caucus meeting held Wednesday evening at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Center, Abuja.

The meeting was chaired by the national chairman of the party, Ahmed Makarfi.

 

A statement signed by a spokesperson of the party, Chinwe Nnorom, said the meeting briefed the national caucus on the status of the party and the ongoing reconciliation process.

“The National Caucus frowned at the brazen display of avarice and desperation against the Edo electorates and democracy on September 28 and 29, 2016 by the ruling APC in collaboration with INEC and security agencies all in the name of Governorship Election,” the statement said.

It also said that the national caucus had called on all party members nationwide and in Edo State to “remain calm and resilient in the face of this daylight robbery of their mandate to our Candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. We believe that justice will be served”.

The Meeting was attended by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Walid Jubrin, Principal Officers of the National Assembly, Governors of Ondo, Taraba, Bayelsa, Gombe, other members of the National Caretaker Committee, National Vice Chairmen, former Governors, former Ministers, other members of BoT and other members of the National Executive Committee, NEC.
