Nigerian Senate Votes Against Tinubu’s Bill Seeking Special Grant For Lagos

The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday rejected a bill seeking special status and federal grant for Lagos State.

The bill which was sponsored by Senator Oluremi Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, representing Lagos Central, was rejected after failing a voice vote called by Ike Ekweremadu.

Consequently, the bill, SB 112, failed to scale second reading for the committee stage.

The bill sought one percent of federally generated revenue as special grant for Lagos State in view of the former Nigeria capital’s socio-economic significance.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu puts the question and Senate votes against the Bill to make provisions for Federal Grants to Lagos State which was then rejected..

Senator Sola Adeyeye takes the Floor. He supports parts of the Bill for Special Grant to Lagos State and opposes some other parts.

Debating over the bill, Senator Adeyeye says 1% of revenue is not enough for Lagos State adding that a percentage of VAT generated in a state be given to that state.
