I’m Much More Optimistic Than I’ve Been In Many Years As Far As The Economy Is Concerned Says Emir Sanusi

The Emir of Kano, and former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has expressed optimism that the Nigerian economy will grow despite ongoing challenges.

The Emir in his support for deregulation and the liberalization of the Forex market made this known while addressing journalists after a lecture series at the National Defence College, Abuja.

According to the Emir, deregulation is a turning point for Nigerian which will lead to the much needed change and transformation if sustained.

“I think that the building blocks have been put in place. What the government has done by fighting insecurity and fighting corruption provides an environment where economic policies can thrive,” Sanusi said.

“We have to work hard and we need to be realistic. Nobody should expect overnight that things will change. Inflation will be with us for sometime, and recession will be reversed gradually,” the Emir added.

Sanusi added that with the right physical stimulus and the right structural policies, we will get ourselves away from dependence on oil.
