“You Are Gone!” – Lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin Alleges Threat To Life Over Immunity For Speaker

The House of Representatives was in rowdy session Tuesday over the planned inclusion of the Senate President and Speaker to enjoy immunity.

While in plenary today, the matter was raised under matter of urgent national importance by the minority leader.

Abdulmumin Jibrin, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation narrated that trouble started in the National assembly over immunity when the issue was raised and he countered it..

He wrote via his twitter handle, “Hon Herma Hembe, remember him? Walked to my seat and in a threatening way exclaimed “you are gone!”.

“I consider this a threat to my life. I have written the IGP of police and DG SSS”.

“The general public should please assist me to draw the attention of the security agencies to this. On our side, we shall not let you down”.

“No one needs immunity except you have something to hide. Let us focus on serving the Nigerian people without emperor-esque privileges”.

“We openly opposed it and insists it should not even go further t han this stage”.

“At a time when Nigerians are pushing for the removal of immunity for Governors, it will be wrong for the House to push for immunity; with what I have seen in Nass in the last five years, I I know the independence or effectiveness of the legislature doesn’t rest on immunity”, he wrote…

“During the plenary, the house split between the opponents and proponents. I stood for progress and best practice, I stood out because my voice was heard loudly and I was moving from seat to seat talking to members”.

“Everyone freely canvassed and mobilised for what he/she believes in”.

The Lawmaker said at a time when Nigerians are pushing for the removal of immunity for Governors, it will be wrong for the House to push for immunity, he added that the war against corruption has gained sufficient ground under president Muhammadu buhari. We cant afford to set it back.

On the issue of immunity for Principal officers of the National assembly, Jibrin stated “I still maintain it will portray the legislature in bad light and even worst will be inimical to the fight against corruption”.
