The Niger Delta Avengers have shunned the peace treaty proposed by the Federal Government as the militant group has yet again launched another attack on a petroleum facility in the region.
Earlier today, Thursday, 16 June, 2016, the Niger Delta Avengers announced it has attacked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC pipeline located in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.
The Avengers through their social media account on Twitter wrote: “At 4:00am @NDAvengers blow up NNPC Pipeline in Oruk Anam Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom.”
The joint revolutionary council of the Joint Niger Delta Liberation Force (JNDLF), had declared ceasefire. The group had earlier threatened to launch six missiles in the region and to also shut Nigeria’s airspace.
Declaring readiness to accept federal government’s offer of dialogue, JNDLF in a statement at the weekend listed its demands.
The group had demanded immediate release of Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser (NSA), reversal of the order to freeze the bank accounts of Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, establishment of Matitime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state, among others.
If the group is connected with the Avengers is not known but it seems more is needed to end the insurgency..
