Breaking: PDP Crisis Worsens, Governors Sack Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved the national executive committee (NEC) of the party led by Ali Modu Sheriff.

The party also dissolved its national working committee (NWC).

Reports say Peoples Democratic Party governors have decided to ignore the announcement by the National Chairman of the party, Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff, that its national convention has been cancelled.

A governor told PUNCH Newspaper that a former Governor of Kaduna, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi as the party’s caretaker national chairman and that they are going ahead with the convention.

He added that Senator Ben Obi was named the national secretary of the party.

A faction of the party led by a former Minister of Information, Prof. Jerry Gana, had earlier held its briefing in Abuja.

Earlier, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ), Senator Ali Amodu Sherrif, called off the national convention of the party holding in Port Harcourt.

Sherrif, who made the announcement at at a press briefing at Le Meridian Hotel, Port Harcourt, cited court orders restraining the party from proceeding with the convention as reason.

“If we proceed with the convention, we will be charged for contempt of court. As As a responsible party, we have to respect the court orders. We will reconvene as soon as we are able to dispense with the court cases,” he said.

However, there are indications that the governors will go ahead with the convention as none of them was sighted at the briefing held by Sheriff.
