Again, Fulani Herdsmen Sack Another Benue Community

A fresh attack by suspected herdsmen has occurred in Buruku local government area of Benue State, leaving five persons dead.

The police public relations officer, (PPRO) in the state, ASP Moses Yamu, who confirmed the attack and killings to newsmen in Makurdi, yesterday, said the ugly incident happened on Friday night.

According to Yamu, the attackers invaded Agwabi community in Binev council ward of Buruku, killed the victims who are farmers and quickly retreated. He however did not say whether any house was burnt.

He further stated that during the attack, two Tiv farmers were matcheted and killed on the spot while about three persons who sustained severe injuries and were conveyed to a health facility near the attacked community, later died in the hospital.

Eye witnesses said the assailants stormed the affected community in their large numbers, with arms and ammunition, unleashed terror and destroyed property in the place.

It was gathered yesterday that the residents, including children, men and women, fled the area to secure their lives and were now taking shelter outside their homes without shelter and food.

The police spokesman said men of the command were deployed to the affected area when they got wind of the attack, to fortify it and prevent further attacks. He stated that investigation into the invasion was ongoing and that normalcy had been restored.
