Mallam Isa Yuguda of Bauchi Has Dumped The People’s Democratic Party

The immediate past governor of Bauchi State, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has dumped the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). The former governor disclosed this while speaking with journalists in Bauchi via telephone on Saturday.

He said he decided to leave PDP, because “the party lacks political will to bring development to Nigeria”.

Yuguda, who is currently out of the country said he has lost confidence in the leadership style of the PDP. He maintained that the party leadership lost focus after the last general election.

He, however, added that he has yet to decide on the party to join.

“I will consult with my supporters before I decide on the party to move to but I am still in politics. Already, I have told my supporters that I will not force them to leave PDP; anybody who wants to remain in PDP is free to do so and whoever wants to move with me is welcome. I decided to leave the PDP because the party can no longer bring development to Nigeria, it’s unfortunate that the party has lost focus,” he said.

The former governor prayed for President Mohammadu Buhari to succeed and bring back the country’s lost glory.

“We must always pray for the success of our leaders because the holy Quran admonishes people to do so”, he said.

Some Yuguda’s supporters who were at the NUJ secretariat, while the call was made, destroyed their membership cards at the end of the press briefing.

A former Senior Special Assistant on Youth to the former governor, Garba Jonas was among those who destroyed their membership cards.

He said: “We decided to destroy our membership cards because we do not belong to the PDP anymore. We must leave with our boss, Isa Yuguda, to wherever he is going”.

The Special Adviser to the former governor on Political Matters, Abdulmumini Kundak, confirmed that the former governor has left the PDP.

Kundak, who is also the former chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission, said the governor called and informed him of his decision.

It would be recalled that Isa Yuguda was elected on the platform of the defunct All Nigeria’s People’s Party (ANPP) in 2007 but dumped the party in 2009 and decamped to PDP.
