PDP BoT Members Warn Against Tenure Extension For Modu Sheriff Will Kill Party

Any attempt to extend the tenure of Ali Modu Sheriff and the entire National Working Committee (NWC) members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will ultimately lead to the death of the opposition party and put paid to its attempt at resuscitation.

The warning was handed down yesterday by the Board of Trustees of the party in a statement issued by the Acting Chairman of the PDP BOT, Dr Walid Jibrin.

The three months extension given to the PDP NWC members within which it should conduct the congresses and convention of the party and quit, expires on May 21.

While the countdown to May 21 goes on, series of stakeholders within the party have been paying solidarity visits on the Chairman, urging him to stay in office and rebuild the party.

The South West Caucus of the party have also plainly expressed their support for the retention of the party’s chairmanship in the North, with open support for Ali Modu-Sheriff to emerge as the National Chairman of the party at the forthcoming May 21 National Convention.

The position of the South west caucus runs contrary to the agreement among the party’s critical institutions which insisted that the zoning arrangements in the party must be strictly adhered to with the party chairman expected to come from the South, while the party’s Presidential candidate comes from the north.
