Former Minister of Health under the President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Some ministers, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, hadthreatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party if Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff is not removed as the national chairman of the party.

They had said during the week “imposing” the former governor of Borno State on the party by some of its influential members was meant to portray the party as unserious.

They added that the plan to reposition the former ruling party ahead of the 2019 general elections had failed with Sheriff’s emergence.

Spokesperson for the former ministers and a former Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman, said in an interview.

Days after, according to this report,  Chukwu registered as a member of APC at his Ugwuegu Ward in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State last Friday in the presence of scores of his supporters and APC members and officials.

The former minister also said to have left the PDP in protest against the shabby treatment he allegedly received from the party as a governorship aspirant in 2014.

Chukwu’s defection to the APC, an opposition party in Ebonyi State, was expected to generate a major transformation of the political landscape in Ebonyi State as several of his supporters and loyalists, key politicians in their own right, were expected to join him in the APC.
