Buhari Presides Over Emergency FEC But The Meeting Is Shrouded In Secrecy

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday held what the federal government called a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting within the Council Chambers at the Presidential Villa.

Unlike the tradition of the Minister of Information briefing the media and Nigerians about the FEC Meetings, details of todays meeting was not made known to State House correspondents.

Before addressing the meeting, President Buhari swore in two Permanent Secretaries, Olakunle Bamgbose and Mahmood Dutse.

Both of them were unavoidably absent during the swearing in of other permanent secretaries a few weeks earlier.

Udoma Udo Udoma, Minister of Budget and National Planning who had announced that Buhari had called for an emergency meeting of the Federal Executive Council, (FEC), over the weekend, said the President is expected to consider the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) ahead of the final preparation of the 2016 Appropriation Bill.

The Monday’s FEC scheduled for the Council Chambers would be second time the meeting will be holding after the inaugural one held on November 11, shortly after the Council was inaugurated by the President.

He had said, “As you may know, this administration is introducing zero based budgeting, which means that every activity must be justified in accordance with the principles of the administration.
