Breaking: Tribunal Sacks Speaker And 20 Other Members Of Rivers Assembly

The Rivers State Legislative Elections Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, allegedly annulled the elections of 21 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Among the lawmakers affected are Speaker, Owaji Ibani from Andoni constituency and 20 lawmakers in Rivers state house of assembly. The lawmakers were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on April 11 2015 in an election marred by vote rigging and violence.

This verdict further compounds the woes of the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, who was sacked last week by a tribunal under the same circumstances.

Oil producing Rivers State has 32 state lawmakers in Rivers state assembly. Thus, with the election of 21 members nullified the state assembly will no longer form a quorum as  to continue to function.
