Senate Receives 10 Petitions Against Ministerial Nominee From Imo

The screening of Anthony Anwuka, a the ministerial nominee from Imo State on Tuesday suffered some setback as the Senate received 10 petitions against his nomination by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Senator Achonu Athanasius Nneji representing Imo North at the upper chamber of the National Assembly presented the petitions during the plenary on Tuesday.

Although Senator Achonu Athanasius Nneji did not disclose the content of the petitions, recent media reports alleged a case of fraud against the nominee following his indictment by a government white paper on his tenure as the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University Owerri

In his reaction on the matter, the Senate President Senator Bukola Saraki referred the petition to the Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions Committee. He directed the committee to submit their report on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Senate on Tuesday screen only two ministerial nominees Barrister Adebayo shittu from Oyo State and Khadija Abba Ibrahim from Yobe State.

Shittu was drilled by the Senators with several questions including his alleged indictment for religious intolerance.The nominee denied ever being indicted.
However, Khadija Ibrahim was asked to take a ‘bow and go’ being a serving.
