She further pleaded with the governor to replace Tola with a woman.

She said, “The women are protesting. They asked me to pass their wishes to have a woman as their commissioner for women affairs.”

Newsmen at the event observed that Tola, who was asked to deliver his speech before that of the wife of the president, appeared uncomfortable with the disposition of the women, hence he uttered a few words before inviting the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hajiya Maisaratu Bello, a woman, to address the gathering.

The appointment of Tola as the first male Commissioner of Women Affairs in Adamawa has been a source of worry in the state, following serious agitation by some women that the position should be reserved for a woman and not a man as it’s currently the case.
