The Trial Of The Senate Pres. Saraki Over Alleged False Declaration of Assets Begins On Friday

The Code of Conduct Bureau has filed a 13-count charge against Senate President, Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal for alleged false declaration of assets.

The trial will begin in Abuja on Friday.

Also, the report states:

Deputy Director in the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, M.S.Hassan, filed the charges against Saraki on September 11.

The charges against Saraki include false declaration of assets, alleged acquisition of assets beyond his legitimate earnings and keeping foreign accounts while holding public office first as Kwara State governor in 2003 and later as a senator.

Saraki who in a statement said all the claims contained in the charge sheet are false, incorrect and untrue added that “anytime you try to fight corruption or insist that the right thing should be done, the system will always come after you.”

The President of the senate however promised to co-operate with the Tribunal and other lawful government agencies in the bid to genuinely fight corruption and eliminate impunity in our public affairs.

Among other charges, Saraki was accused of making false declaration of assets on assumption of office as Kwara State Governor in 2003.

Saraki was also accused of not declaring some assets he acquired while in office, acquiring assets beyond his official earnings and operating foreign accounts in contravention of the law as a public officer.
