Catching up with social media mobile livestreaming platforms like Periscope and Meerkat, Facebook today launched its own video live streaming feature called “Live”.

The “Live” as a feature in its Mentions app will only available to celebrities like Dwayne The Rock Johnson, Serena Williams, Luke Bryan, Ricardo Kaká, Ashley Tisdale, Lester Holt, Martha Stewart, Michael Bublé and more with a verified Page.

VIPs can start a Live broadcast that’s posted to the News Feed, watch comments overlaid in real-time on their stream, and then make the recording permanently available for viewing.

According to Facebook’s product manager, Mr Vadim Lavrusik, Facebook Live is good and recommended for celebrities because “Public figures already have fans on Facebook that they share to every single day.”

He added “You can comment on, like or share the video while watching a live broadcast. You can also see when your friends or other public figures start watching.

Live is an immersive and authentic way to connect with the public figures you care about, in real-time. If you don’t catch the live broadcast, you can also watch the video later on the public figure’s Page.”

Basically, with huge fan counts on Facebook, celebrities could see a wider audience there than on other networks.
