Rejected APC Candidate, Senator Bukola Saraki Emerges President Of The Nigerian Senate

Senator Bukola Saraki, representing Kwara central has been elected as the new Senate President of the 8th National Assembly in Nigeria.
Saraki emerged unopposed at the election today. The All Progressives Congress had voted for Ahmad Lawan in a mock primary held by the party, rejecting the former Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki.

Ike Ekweremadu has and Ndume have both been nominated to contest for the position of deputy Senate President. The assembly complex had earlier been ordered closed by the Leadership of the Party, APC to prevent the emergence of Senator Saraki..

The National Assembly at exactly 10: 00am commenced the inauguration of the 8th National Assembly with the reading of the proclamation letter from President Muhammadu Buhari by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasua for the inauguration.

Consequently, the Deputy Clark of the Senate read names of Senators alphabetically from Aba State and about 57 were present.
