Your Excellencies,
The Governors-Elect in Nigeria.

A CALL TO ACTION

Accept my congratulations for your victory at the polls.
Indeed you are the soldiers of democracy supported by the citizens as massively demonstrated through the ballot on 11th April, 2015.

Given the unprecedented goodwill you have all enjoyed through the arduous electioneering campaigns ranging from the primaries, through the election proper, you have indeed got a task at your hands. A task to deliver and nothing less.

This task is even more egregious considering that the citizens have become aware of their power which enables them to determine who leads them by an unspoken resolve to carry out their civic responsibilities and also follow through by continually monitoring performance. Many thanks to the social media revolution.

It is therefore extremely important that while celebrating your well-deserved victory, you should also get to work immediately.

The key to your success as governors will largely depend on how well you plan what to do in four years of governance and the means through which you intend to do such especially with respect to human resources.

Let it be known to you that sycophants will be lurking around you like bees now and powerful people will also forward their surrogates to you for appointments. BUT ALWAYS REMEMBER AND BE GUIDED BY THE FACT THAT THE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF YOUR ADMINISTRATION WILL NEVER BE ATTRIBUTED TO ANYONE BUT YOU.

Do your best to ward off pressures and engage the best brains which I know are in abundance in our dear country. Round pegs for round holes and square pegs for square holes.

Remember that the country’s political landscape has tremendously changed and this wind of change is fast blowing across the nation’s democratic establishments.
Come 2019, it will be performance and nothing but performance that will decide the polls. It may not be party affiliations or any of such factors. No even the religious garb often adorned to swindle the masses will work this time around. Nigerians are now aware and so those who will be seeking for mandate renewal must have a worthy scorecard to woo voters and those seeking fresh mandates must show a CV that gives hope.

Our democracy is fast becoming performance based and this accounts for why it is now common place for incumbents to loose elections.
My letter to you is a call for action aimed at bringing your attention to the obvious need to perform.
Nigerians have voted for you. Nigerians are now watching you.

It is my view that you pay great attention to the following areas with a sense of urgency:

Internally Generated Revenue (IGR)

Infrastructural development

Employment Generation

Agriculture

Education

Housing

Sports

Your Excellency sirs, this list is by no means exhaustive but I know your manifestos are all very rich, however, it requires careful planning and strategic implementation to achieve the beautiful aims embedded in its programs. Four years is already around the corner, so bear it in mind that you have no time on your side to either earn yourselves a second term in office or willfully give up the goodwill.

For those governors whose tenure was renewed during the last election, you are left with few choices; either sustain your performance or redeem your image. Good name they say and we agree is better than money. Here is a chance to earn yourselves a place in the positive pages of history.

My letter to you is my humble contribution to our collective journey towards making our dear country, our dream country which all of us can be proud of in the future.
Finally, it is my hope that this letter gets to you all in good health and that you also spare a little time to read through.
Thanks and God bless you abundantly.

Long live Federal republic of Nigeria!

Faithfully yours,
Oliver Uchechukwu Eze
