House of Representatives member elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prof. Mojeed Alabi, has joined the race for Speakership of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.
THISDAY reports that Alabi, who just joined the expanding list of Speakership contender flaunts his experience as the Speaker of Osun State House of Assembly as his veritable credential and so far; he is the only PDP member who has indicated interest to run for the position.
However, this brings to eight the number of contestants for the number four seat. Those who have already shown interest are: Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Hon. Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Hon. Pally Iriase and Hon. Ajibola Famurewa. The rest are: Hon. Adams Jagaba and Hon. Abdulmumini Jibrin.
In another development, Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is eyeing the office of the Senate Leader of the National Assembly.
THISDAY checks reveal that some top notch party leaders reached the agreement after rounds of consultation that include other outstanding contributions of Kwankwaso to the victory of the party in all rounds of elections in the country.
He was second to GMB with 974 votes beating a seasoned politician and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, who scored 954 votes, to the third position.
According to a source, Kwankwaso further endeared himself to the party bigwigs by the superlative figures he garnered for the President-elect in the April 28 election. Buhari got 1,903,999 votes. This was the highest in all states of the country.
“The party leaders collectively rallied round Kwankwaso, who is an elected Senator representing Kano Central, agreeing, without dissension that he should be the Senate Leader,” the source said.
