Senate President Glad That Polls Outcome Disappointed ‘Prophets Of Doom’

Senate President, David Mark has said that the outcome of the general election has greatly disappointed doomsday prophets who predicted disaster and even possible breakup of the country,

Sen. Mark also said the introduction of the card reader in the general election added value to the electoral process as it proved to be efficient, effective and result oriented.

He made this known in his welcome address to senators after the elections and Easter recess, adding that he is happy that Nigerians hearkened to the persistent appeals for a peaceful and violence free elections.

Sen Mark also commended the maturity and sportsmanship displayed by President Goodluck Jonathan who willingly conceded defeat and congratulated Gen Muhammadu Buhari even before INEC announced the result.

According to him, that singular act saved the country from a possible crisis and catastrophe adding that the president’s action added value to the consolidation of democracy in the country and raised benchmark of peaceful democratic transition and consequently set a new democratic template in the continent notorious for infamous sit-tight leaders.

Mark said, “I also extend my warm felicitation to the President-elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari. The President-elect has extended a hand of fellowship to Jonathan and his team. He has also followed it up with conciliatory statements that further re-inforce the unity.”
