Breaking: INEC Calls Off Assembly Polls In Bayelsa

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa state, has called off House of Assembly elections in four local governments in the state.

The postponement, which is coming less than 24 hours to the April 11 election, will affect some constituencies in the four out of the eight local governments of Bayelsa State; is due to inadequate electoral materials.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of Bayelsa state, Baritor Kpagih made this known in a statement on Friday, as he disclosed elections in the affected areas would be held on April 18, 2015.

“Following the stand of the stakeholders ? that no election should take place in the state without full complement of ballot papers, having regard to the total PVC distributed, the state house of assembly election slated for Saturday, the 11th of April, 2015, in Bayelsa state has been rescheduled to Saturday the 18th day of April, 2015 in the following constituencies: Ekeremor constituencies 1,2 and 3, Kolokuma/Opokuma constituencies 1 and 2, Sagbama constituencies 1 and 2, and Southern Ijaw constituency 1,” the statement read.

REC Kpagih added that the shift affects four of the eight local governments within the state.

It is important to note that Bayelsa is one of the seven states in the country where governorship elections would not hold on Saturday.
