About five petrol stations have been shut down indefinitely by the Ekiti State Petroleum Consumers Protection Agency for allegedly hoarding fuel and selling above pump price of N87 per litre. This was disclosed by the Chairman of the Agency, Mr. Adeyemi Adebayo, on Monday after monitoring sale of the commodity in Ado Ekiti.

The affected filling stations are Prosperous filling station, Isan-Ekiti; Iroporal filling station, Iropora-Ekiti; Ferbason filling station, Ado-Ekiti; MNPC, Ado-Ekiti and Montel filling station also in Ado-Ekiti.

Adebayo said each of the stations would pay a penalty of N500,000 to serve as deterrent to others. He vowed that the affected stations would pay the fine, reverse to the normal price and stop hoarding prducct before they would be reopened.

He expressed regrets that some petrol dealers chose to be making life difficult for people at a time when government was trying to make things easy for them. He said his men caught the stations in the act, while acting on a tip-off that some of the stations were selling between N100 – N120 per litre as against N87 approved price.
