Gunmen Kill 27 In Taraba Village Raid

About 27 people were killed while many others were injured at the weekend when gunmen attacked ‘Ungwan Kwalla’ village in Ibi Local Government Area of Taraba State.

According to reports, the gunmen were believed to have come from the neighbouring Plateau State in the early hours of Saturday. The gunmen invaded the village and started shooting sporadically at the residents and torched several houses before fleeing the area.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Joseph Kwaji, who confirmed the attack, however, said only nine people, among them a soldier, were killed in the attack.

He explained that armed militia men of Yargam extraction from neighbouring Plateau State were suspected to have launched the attack. Kwaji said no arrest was made and that a detachment of security operatives had been sent to the village to restore normalcy.
