The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, says its attention has been drawn to various news reports especially by the electronic media concerning the adoption of a consensus governorship candidate by the party.

The statement by the APC is issued hours after scores of Ogoni people took to the streets in Port Harcourt on Thursday to protest the endorsement of a member of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dakuku Peterside, as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress.

Peterside was on Wednesday chosen as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State ahead of the member representing Rivers South-East in the National Assembly, Senator Magnus Abe, a native of Ogoniland.

The party in a statement issued today and signed by the publicity secretary of the party, Senibo Chris Finebone said it has become important to properly situate what has happened to prevent avoidable misreporting by the media and not to play into the hands of detractors and mischief-makers.

“Indeed, the Rivers State APC Caucus, after a long period of diligent scrutiny and in their wisdom, yesterday endorsed Amaopusenbo [Dr] Dakuku Adolphus Peterside MHR for the forthcoming governorship primaries of the party in Rivers State.

“It is important to re-emphasize that the primaries of the APC in Rivers State will hold as planned and all processes will be duly and diligently adhered to.

“The APC will continue to uphold and abide by the hallowed principle of internal party democracy and will not depart from it” the party promised.
