The All Progressives Congress, the APC, today formally welcomed into its fold, Speaker Aminu Tambuwal, who announced his defection from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party yesterday.

The APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun called Tambuwal to the podium at the party’s special convention in Abuja.

Tambuwal was accompanied by many colleagues in the House of Representatives to the stage, among them the minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Tambuwal, who read a prepared speech, said by 29 May 2015, the APC would have swept away the PDP from office.

He said the APC represents a new hope to Nigerians, a change agent that would save Nigeria from the problems of poverty and institutionalised corruption.

He said he has been overwhelmed by the encouraging words from party members since he announced his defection to the party and vowed to help the party achieve greatness in the country.

Nigeria’s opposition APC’s extraordinary national convention in Abuja is to approve amendments to the constitution of the party and also adopt its manifesto for the 2015 general elections.
