Akwa Ibom Woman Buries Her Baby Alive

One Miss Patience Sunday Aaron of Afaha Abia villiage, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has been nabbed by men of the Nigeria Police for burying her one-day-old baby alive.

Briefing newsmen at the police headquarters, Uyo, the new Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State command, Gabriel Achong, said the baby, who was buried in a shallow grave, was rescued alive about seven hours later.

Achong, who assured zero tolerance for all forms of criminality in the state pledged to adopt intelligence approach to policing to ensure that a near crime-free state is realised, in order to keep the state calm and peaceful in preparation for the 2015 general election.

Enumerating other crimes whose perpetrators have been arrested during August and September, the command said it had successfully foiled bank robbery attempts by hoodlums, who invaded Union Bank Plc, Okobo branch.

The command also reported recovery of more than six children, who were victims of child theft and other items, including N8.9 million cash recovered from hoodlums, who trailed and shot the driver of a telecommunication manager on his way to the bank in Ikot Ekpene. Four vehicles and N30,000 fake currency were also recovered from other operation.

One Andre Remi Moses, a driver with Union Bank Plc, Lagos, who absconded with his manager’s Hyundai SUV, with Registration No. AKD 381 CY to Oron, according to Achong was traced and arrested. Suspect, according to him confessed to have sold the vehicle to a Ghanaian in Port Harcourt.

“We have also arrested one Udo Sunday Effiong, 15, a vandal of streetlight solar panel, also along Ibom Airport Road.

“The vigilante group of Akai Ubium village intercepted one Augustine Enechukwu ‘m’ of Ebonyi State, but residing at Oron Local Government Area, with the sum of N30,000 fake currency,” he stated.
