The Pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Francis has today (Thursday) arrived South Korea on a five-day visit. This is Pope Francis’ first visit to Asia as the leader of the Catholic faith. This is also the first time a Pope is visiting Asia since 1999 when Pope John Paul II of blessed memory visited India.
Asia has the smallest population of Catholics in the world and only about 3% of South Koreans are of the Catholic faith.
On this visit, the Pope is expected to say a mass for peace and pray for reconciliation in the Korean peninsula. He will also have a meeting with catholic Bishops in the Asian region and another meeting with thousands of young Asian Catholics.
