You read here earlier today that Manchester City were close to completing a deal for French defender, to Eliaquim Mangala. That deal has been completed as the Mancunian Blues have announced the signing of the Porto defender.

The deal taking Mangala to England is worth €40 million. Football pundits reckon Mangala will be a perfect pairing for City’s Belgian captain, Vincent Kompany.

One familiar face the defender will be meeting as he joins up with his new teammates at the Etihad stadium is Brazilian midfielder, Fernando who also joined city from Porto.

Speaking to the Manchester City website after completing his deal to the premier league’s defending champions, 23-year-old Mangala said:

“For me, it was an important step to leave Porto and join Manchester City in order to continue my progress.

“I want to win titles and I believe I can do this. I am ambitious and this is why I am here.

“I’m very happy to come to England because for me, the Premier League is the best league in the world. It is a very intense and very aggressive competition. There are plenty of goals, so it is also really nice to watch and I can’t wait to get started!

“The fact that Fernando is here is better because I played with him at Porto but there is also other players that I know like [Bacary] Sagna, [Gael] Clichy and [Samir] Nasri.”

City has previously signed five other players in the current summer transfer window and they are: Willy Caballero, Fernando, Frank Lampard (loan), Bruno Zuculini and Bacary Sagna.
