Ikimi, Sheriff Boycott APC Inauguration Ceremony As Youths Protests Over 52-Year-Old Leader

Contestants for the office of the chairmanship of the All Progressive Party, Chief Tom Ikimi and a former governor of Borno state, Senator Modu Sheriff   were   absent  during the APC inauguration of newly elected officers.

Sources say Ikimi has been unhappy after the Friday convention at the Eagle Square Abuja following the plot by Chieftains of the party led by Bola Tinubu who vowed never to allow his candidacy as party leader.

Also at the Sheraton Hotel, venue of the event, protesting youths stormed the premises Wednesday before the ceremony was to kick-off for the constituted executive members of the opposition party.

For more than 30 minutes the national leaders of the party, including General Mohammadu Buhari were held hostage while the inauguration programme  was partially disrupted .

Two different youth groups suspected to be supporters of the national youth leader clashed with supporters of another youth group who  were  opposed to  his election.

Protesting youths Wednesday took over the venue of the inauguration of the newly elected national executives officers of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja for more than 30 minutes protesting against the choice of the youth leader.

Those protesting against the youth leader wore  T-shirts bearing the photograph of the controversial youth leader, . Mr. Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo.
