The Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) on Thursday condemned the kidnap of Ebikeme Clark, son of elder statesman and Ijaw National Leader, Chief Edwin Clark.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the spokesman for IYC, Mr Eric Omare.

The statement said Ebikeme was kidnapped on April 2 by unknown gunmen at the site of the E. K. Clark University of Technology, Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta.

“The preliminary investigation by the IYC reveals that Ebikeme was taken to the kidnappers’ hideout through the Kiagbodo River which connects the Ramos and Forcados Rivers in Delta and Bayelsa States.

“The IYC officials in Oporomo, Ingbelebiri, Mein and Seimbiri Clans of Bayelsa and Delta states have been mandated to trace and fish out the kidnappers’’, the statement said.

According to the statement, the IYC officials would also work with security agencies in Delta and Bayelsa to ensure the release of Ebikeme.

The IYC restated its irrevocable commitment to fight kidnapping in particular and criminality in general in Ijaw land.

“Efforts are being made by the IYC in conjunction with security agents to free Ebikeme’’, the statement said.

The IYC urged family members of the victim not to pay any ransom to the kidnappers in order to discourage kidnapping in Ijawland and in the Niger Delta.
