Guber Polls: Ekiti Commissioner Beats NYSC Member For Refusing To Register An Electorate Twice

The Ekiti state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, Monday beats up a National Youth Service Corp member for refusing to register a double registrant.

The NYSC member at a registration unit in Otun Ekiti, Moba Local Government Area of the state turned down pressure by the All Progressives Congress Commissioner to register the electorate twice.

Mr. Thompson Enobong, with NYSC number EK/13c/1859, is one of the NYSC members assisting INEC in the just-concluded registration.

The decision by Corper Enobong not to go against the law, provoked the Commissioner for Youth and Sports who had to physically assault the corp member registering the voters at the center..

Enobong was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Ido Ekiti, where he is said to be receiving treatment.

Observers in the state say, the NYSC member was slapped severally by the commissioner who insisted that the electorate must be registered twice.

Yesterday was the the close of the Continuous Voter Registration Exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in the state and the APC led government hurriedly registered electorates twice in some centers.

Independent Observers who saw the NYSC member assaulted, immediately called the Police in Ekiti State to intervene. The commissioner was questioned by the Police command.

Under-age children were allowed to register at the various centers in Ekiti, according to Eyewitness accounts.

Children were seen registering at the various centers, ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state, the situation Observers accounts say endangers credible elections in the country.

Also one Paul Ezekiel was arrested in Ikere Ward 2 for allegedly threatening officials of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, during the rush for registration.

INEC Chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega has continued to say that electoral offenders will be prosecuted, what will become of the action by the Ekiti Commissioner, only time will tell.
