EFCC To Prosecute Suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Over Alleged Fraud
Nigeria’s Vanguard Newspaper is reporting that the Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, may be prosected by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged acts of financial recklessness in under administration’s as CBN’s head.
The papers indicated that, sources close to the Presidency, disclosed that Sanusi may be invited this week for questioning on the allegations against him.
President Goodluck Jonathan had last Thursday suspended Sanusi as the CBN Governor and appointed the most senior Deputy Governor of the bank, Sarah Alade, as acting Governor of the bank until the conclusion of ongoing investigations into breaches of enabling laws, due process and mandate of the CBN.
Recall that upon arrival at the ExecuJet Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, the suspended governor was briefly detained by SSS operatives in mufti and was asked to surrender his international passport. He was also asked not to leave the airport until the Lagos state director of the SSS arrives.
The CBN governor was later allowed to leave after the operatives communicated with superiors but his passport was seized.
