Jonathan Holds Council Of State Meeting, Obasanjo, Buhari, Amaechi Absent

11 months after the last session was held, President, Goodluck Jonathan, is presiding over a Council of State meeting holding in the presidential villa in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Some of Nigeria’s past leaders at the Tuesday meeting are; General Yakubu Gowon, Mr Ernest Shonekan, Mr Shehu Shagari, General Ibrahim Babangida, and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

State governors, Senate President, David Mark, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal and former Chief Justices of the Federation are also attending the meeting.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Head of State, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari; and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State are absent at the meeting.

Three former military leaders, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.) and Gen. Abdusalam Abubakar (retd.), as well as former President Sheu Shagari and Chief Ernest Shonekan, however attended the meeting presided over by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The meeting started at about 10.45am, with the governors of Jigawa and Ekiti States saying the opening prayer.

The Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, is the deputy chairman, of the council.

The meeting is held to discuss pressing national issues, proposed national conference,the forth coming 2015 general elections and the celebration of Nigeria’s centenary.
